My 2011 Misses

As promised, here's my list of products that didn’t quite reach my expectations for year 2011 –

1.       Love Minerals Blush in Pink Quartz–I made a review of this and I said that although I loved the color, I didn’t like the texture and the smell. Well, it’s still the same.  I haven’t been using it at all. I know they have a new formulation, I hope it’s way better now.

2.     Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder –  I got this because my loose powder from The Faceshop is almost finished up.  I’ve read good reviews on this, too.  Unfortunately, it didn’t make it to my list of favorites.  It kinda broke me out a bit, and it wasn’t smooth and soft as I expected it to be. Felt like applying grains on my face.

3.      Shawill Retractable Face Brush – I ranted about this brush here.  It sheds, it bleeds and it hurts my face. So boo. Check out my rant here.

4.     Fashion 21 Blush Stick –  I liked this on average. It was good for some time, but now I think my stick is drying up already.  It’s not soft and smooth in application.  It needs major rubbing so the product will show on my cheeks.  But as part of my emergency makeup stash in the office, it works for now. See my take on this here.

5.     Love Minerals Lipsticks – Again, for Human Heart Nature makeup, the colors are nice nudes.  However, the textures are the problem.  They were nice at first, but now, they are drying up.  Better formulation, please.

6.     Etude House Peach Skin Pact – Ok, I’ve read about this, but I was disappointed.  It doesn’t really work to cover up skin.  It’s just plain powder with subtle shimmer.  The scent is nice, though. But other than that, this is way better as a highlighter, although countless touch-ups are required.

7.      Staniac – I’ve made a post about this before.  As a stain, it’s good. But I just really hate how gel-like it is.  It’s sticky and hard to work with, in my opinion.

8.     Ever Bilena Matte Lipstick – This has good color pay-0ff.  But it dries up my lips, seriously.  See my review here.

9.     Stila Smudgepot in Kitten – Ok, it’s either I got a dud, or this just really dries up so quickly! The color is a really, really nice eye base hue, and I so wanted it to work on me.  So I had to improvise, add some baby oil on it, and try to work it so it won’t be a total waste of money.  But I still hate that it dries up so fast on the pot. Grr.

So there you go, my ladies.  Did some of these products work well on you, or did they also “fail” you?  I’d really love to hear you out.

2012 is just around the corner. Aren't you all excited?  Cheers for 2012!

My 2011 Hits

As the year comes to a heart-pounding conclusion, let me share with you my hits and misses for the year 2011.  That is, my hits and misses when it comes to all things beauty and makeup.  I've only began beauty bloggin' in June of 2011, and in that course of six months, I've learned and discovered a whole lot more about cosmetics, skin care and makeup.  Since I became a bit serious about all things makeup, I've discovered more and more brands and tools that helped pave the way to what I am now as a makeup addict.  Hence, let me share the rest of my discoveries.

This is gonna be a two (2) part series, and to start off, in random order, I present to you my "hits" for 2011.

1. Maybelline Lipsticks - For affordable and reasonable prices that can't be beat, and also very easily found everywhere, these moisturizing lipsticks pack a lot of oomph.  The colors go from the sheerest to the most pigmented, all without drying out the lips. Most of all, it's a 3-in-1 deal: a lip balm, lipgloss and lipstick. Check out my reviews of some of them here and here.

2. MAC Peachykeen blush -  This is so soft and buttery in texture.  I love bringing this in my official business trips, because I get that subtle cheek color in just one swipe.  Quick to use, easy for touch-ups, and color is very workable. Read here for my review.

3.  Charm Retractable Kabuki brush in Gold – For a cheap and local brand for makeup brushes, Charm hits the spot! I use a brush for my regular powder touch ups, and it took me awhile to find the perfect travel powder brush.  But having read reviews of this one, and having found it at Pure Beauty in Serendra,   I was convinced that this is the perfect brush to tote around. It’s so soft to the skin and packs enough product. I really like this brush.  ‘Nuff said.

4.  Revlon Matte Lipsticks – Matte lipsticks that pack a lot of color and is not drying at all on the lips, that’s Revlon for you.  This brand was also my first attempt for a “vampish” red lipstick, and it delivered really well.  Read my reviews of the two colors I have here and here.

5. Barbie Shimmer Powder in Pink Glam – For only PHP60.00, this loose powder blush that is originally meant for kids is a hit for me, too.  I love the shimmers and the color.  It may be messy but it is still a steal for me. Check out my rave for it here.

6.  Human Heart Nature Tinted Lip Balm in Island Kiss – Not only does this lip protection give me soft, moisturized lips for a day, it also gives me a hint of lip color.  Made of the most natural, healthy and safest ingredients, plus it’s 100% made in the Philippines, this is such a treat and a hit! Check out my raves here.

7.  NYX Runway Palettes  - Ok, I realize that for a product that I use so often, I haven’t actually made a real review for these lovely palettes.  I will do that, as soon as I can, promise! But anyways, these are really great value for money.  Very nice and mixable colors, pigmented, and utterly useful and appropriate for work.  I bring either one of these palettes in my work trips, because they fit my makeup kit easily.

8.  Ellana Mineral Makeup – My greatest discovery for the year – mineral makeup!  I’ve learned that there is makeup that wouldn’t break me out or make my skin horrible, but in the contrary, would protect it and make it even more radiant.  Read my take on mineral makeup here.

9.  ELF Two-Way Cake Powder Foundation – I trust and rely on this powder foundation during my work trips.  Another 3-in-1 product for me, I use it as foundation, concealer for my under eyes and touch-up powder.  With SPF 15, it also gives me added sun protection.  I already hit the pan and I will definitely purchase this again.

10.  Eyebrowz in Medium Brown – I’ve found my HG makeup for doing my eyebrows.  I look like a freak whenever I go out of the house without doing my brows. I will surely get another one of this.   For my full review, read here

11.  Kokuryu Cake Foundation – For a cheap foundation, I never thought that this would actually do wonders on me.  I use this on days when I have important events or meetings to attend to and I cannot afford to touch-up all the time.  I have instant matte, oil-free and radiant skin. See here for my rave.

12.  Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus – My HG mascara. Period. I’ve found it, and won’t let go.  I will absolutely stick with this brand until I find the next best thing.

Quite a long post, huh?  Watch out for Part 2, coming in a few!
(By the way, have you tried any of these products, too? I'd love to hear your own raves and rants on them. )

My Birthday Makeup Look

As it's also my birthday, it's one hella good day for me, too.  I went shoppin' and eatin' today.  Gosh, I got so stuffed with so many sushi. Yum!  Plus, I got a couple of new blazers from Forever 21 and new makeup from The Faceshop.

My Christmas Nails

It's very rare that I post nail color photos.  This is surprising, even to me who's such a nail spa addict.  However, in my other blog, I used to post a lot of photos of my current nails for the week.  But hey, I'm gonna start doin' this on a regular basis. After all, having beautiful nails are all about beauty, too. So anyways, as it's almost Christmas, I chose to show off the nail color I'm wearing for the holidays - Orly's Enchanted Forest.

Enchanted Forest belongs to Orly's Once Upon A Time collection.  It's a deep blue-green shade that comes off very opaque.  It's also creamy and smooth upon application.  It's a striking contrast to my MAC Ruby Woo lipstick, as shown in the first photo.  I wanted a green color, that appears classy, elegant and something not too bright.  Enchanted Forest is just that.

I wanted to show off the colors under natural daylight, but unfortunately, my camera isn't showing it well.  I made these shots while inside a hotel room, while waiting for my friends until we start our annual Christmas party.  However, I hope you can see how this color is dark and deep green, yet also somewhat Christmas-y.

Well, that's about it for my Christmas Eve post.  Have an enjoyable one!

Review: MAC Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Overtime

Hey, I'm on a roll today! That's because I'm not really doing anything at work right now. Ya know, just surfin' and chillin' with officemates.  Because seriously, how can anybody work right now when everyone's ready to go home and celebrate Christmas?

Anyhow, here's one of my long overdue review.  As I said in my previous posts, I got a loot of makeup gifts from my Auntie who came to visit from the US.  My cousin also threw in a bunch of other makeups, which she wanted me to review.  Honestly, I'm so ecstatic to try all of them, but hey, life gets in the way sometimes. So for now, I'm posting this review of one of my favorites in the batch.

Place bought:  MAC store in the US
Price:  I got this as a gift.  But regular price is at $17 in MAC stores, but in the PH, it costs a little over a thousand a pop.
Packaging:  Encased in a round and smooth tube, with a slight metallic finish. Different from regular MAC lipstick tubes.
Shade:  Overtime - appears like a light nude peach in the tube, but goes on as an opaque baby pink on the lips or when swatched.

Let's see some swatches and more photos:

A Gray Friday

It's been awhile since my last makeup look post.  But today, I decided to do one.  It's Friday, and I can't believe I'm still at work!  The office is still up and kickin'.  Where's the holiday spirit gone? I guess that's what we get for not having the privilege to enjoy a long weekend Christmas, thanks to our dear government offcials.

Hence, my look isn't that festive at all, copying even the weather that we keep having lately - "gray and sad".  But at least, I got some shimmers goin' one, thanks to Stila's Smudgepot in Kitten.

Nivea Face Sunblock
Shisheido Whitening Liquid Foundation
ELF Two-Way Cake Powder Foundation
 Etude House Peach Skin Pact

Stila Smudgepot in Kitten mixed with NYX eyeshadow in gray
Fanny Serrano Longwear Gel Liner
CG Lashblast in Fusion

NYX Round lipstick in Sash mixed with Beauty Credit Lipstick in Raspberry Pop

Most of what I'm wearing here are new items I got recently.  I have yet to make reviews of some of them.  Meanwhile, while the holiday break is up, I'll be posting more reviews soon, so stay tuned for that!

See yah!

My Lip & Cheek Stains Comparison

Hi there!

For tonight's post, I will be doing a sorta comparison and mini-review of all the lip and cheek stains that I currently have in my stash.  I have been addicted to these products since my college days, and I always had one in my purse.  Needless to say, I've gone through a LOT of brands (from high-end imported ones down to our own local yet affordable options) and tubes already such that I consider myself an expert when it comes to lip and cheek stains.  Although as I grew up and learned to branch out to other modes of applying lip and cheek color, I still think that these stains should be "staples" in one's makeup stash.

So moving on, right now, I have these stains in my collection:

Review: Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Flush

Flush it down, babe!  Just one more post, before I doze off to sleep.

I got this new fave blush as a gift from a friend who came home from the US.  Tarte is a US cosmetic brand that claims to be natural when it comes to the ingredients in their products.  It is also animal cruelty-free.  With all those claims and being an advocate of natural ingredients myself, I got sold!

Let's get down to my review.

Place bought:  I got this as a gift, but my friend got this from Sephora. I think this is available locally online thru Multiply or Ebay.
Price:  As mentioned, it's a freebie! However, regular price from Sephora is $25.00 or around PHP 1,450.00.
Packaging:  Sold in a plastic box, but the product itself is encased in a round smooth compact in the same shade as the blush.  It also comes with a mirror.
Shade:  Flush is described in the website as "deep berry" shade.  It comes off as a dark matte fuschia in the pan, but applies as a bright and deep pink upon swatching.

Haul: New Lippies from my KL trip

I've been on a one-week long absence from blogging.  That's because I went on vacation!  As my birthday/Christmas treat to myself this year, I went to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with my sister, and Auntie and Uncle who came home from the US.  I have loads of photos to share from that trip, but I'd rather do that in my personal blog.

As this is a beauty blog, I will do a post about the lippies I bought from my trip.  It's not a lot, just three wonderful colors from the brand Essence, which isn't available in Manila.  I've read tons of reviews about this brand from other beauty bloggers, and I was curious about it when I saw the brand's booth from KL's local Watson's store.

Pictured above - I got a lipstick with the shade Sparkling Angel (the nude lipstick) , and two lipglosses in the shades of I like Cotton Candy (the pinkish purple shade)  and Candy Bar (the warm pinkish coral shade).

Upon arriving at the hotel, I couldn't help doing swatch photos of them.  Once I opened each lippie, most especially the lipglosses, I was surrounded with a sweet candy scent.  Here are quick photo swatches of them -

from left - Essence Sparkling Angel lipstick, Essence Stay With Me Lipgloss in Candy Bar, and Essence Stay With Me Lipgloss in I Like Cotton Candy

I will be doing a more extensive review of all these in the near future.  But so far, this I got to say - I wish I purchased more colors, especially those of the Stay With Me Lipglosses.  They are very, very pigmented and not sticky on the lips at all.  Plus, they are also very affordable. Too bad, I wasn't able to grab a lot of 'em.

However, if you girls are curious about them, here's a link to a more detailed review of the lipglosses from Karen's Makeup and Beauty Blog.  It's actually from her that I learned about the brand, and I was glad to find out that we share the same favorite shades from this line.

By the way, I also got a lot of new makeup as gifts from the US.  And I'm currently going through them and doing swatches.  I can't wait to share my take on all of them.  I will be doing that soon. But that's about it for now.

See yah!

Review: NARS blush in Angelika

This is just a quick review, with loads of pictures uploaded, to feature my current favorite blush - NARS Blush in Angelika.  I know there are tons of blog reviews for this blush already, but just wanted to throw my own review out there.  So, let's get it on!

Place bought:  NARS counter, Rustan's, Gateway Mall

Price:  Php 1,450.00 ($25)
Packaging:  Comes in a box, with the distinctive NARS rubbery rectangle compact, that comes with a mirror inside.
Shade:  Angelika is described as a  "Cotton candy pink with gold and silver sparkle".  It's indeed a bright pink color with cool undertones.
