Makeup Looks that blew me away from the Oscars

Hello, ladies!  Have you watched the Oscars? Sadly, I haven't yet.  Aside from the fact that we still haven't set up our TV set in our new place, I also didn't have the time.  But thank God for the power of the internet!  At least I got to click around and see the red carpet looks, which is what I'm usually watching out for during awards shows like the Oscars.

This time, let's do away with looking at their gowns, because as far as my taste goes, there was really nothing spectacular or simply nothing new to be seen.  It's like they've all already worn something like those kinds before.  So let me focus instead on the hair and makeup looks that the stars were wearing that night.

I had my eyes stuck on these photos while I was browsing BellaSugar.

Let's see...

Angeline Jolie would forever be on my list.  For this year's Oscars, she did away with her usual nude lips and went full-on red.  I love her hair color, too and the texture.  Very summer-y with those beachy waves.

Ah...Ginnifer Goodwin showed up with something different.  Among the sea of winged liners and red lips, her makeup look was a refreshing change.  Maybe she's chanelling spring, but I do love those sparkly eyes in sea foam green and sparkly nude lips.  Her hair had some character, too.

Like Ginnifer, I also adore Kate Hudson's makeup look.  I love the eye makeup and the soft pink gloss on her lips.  Very ethereal. Her makeup artist sure knew how to highlight her cheeks with enough sheen and glow.

LOD: L'Oreal Endless Lipstick in Timeless Tawny

Monday freaking! Yep, it's that time of the week. But right now, I'm kinda taking a break.  But mostly it's because I am currently experiencing a mental block. I'm kinda figuring out how to end my piece of work. So while I sort that out in the backs of my head, lemme show you this piece of work instead.

For today, I'm trying out a new lipstick. It's a browny nude with sparkles, coming from L'Oreal's Endless Lipstick line.  This line from the brand promises to deliver a "long wear" of lip color that would last for hours. So far, it lasts on me for a good 4 hours. And even when I keep sipping from my water bottle, I notice that there's still more left on my lips.

For a long wearing lipstick, it doesn't dry out my lips at all - which is always a good plus.  It glides on smoothly on the lips upon application, too.

However, what I don't dig is the smell and taste.  At first, it smells sorta like baby powder, and then it becomes a strong scent of some kinda chemicals.  I can still actually smell it from my lips right now. It's not really yucky, but I wish they could do away with the scent.

Oh, this is part of the makeup gifts which I got from the US. I think I have four shades of this, and this is the first one I tried on.  So far, only the shade is working for me. It's a nude that doesn't wash me out.

Ok, that's it for today. Gotta go back to work now!

Review: Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Candy Apple

I’m a huge fan of tinted lip balms.  And it seems like lately, in the makeup world, it’s starting to be a fad.  Come summer time, these tinted lip balms would definitely come in handy.  One of the more popular tinted lip balms that’s been raved about by makeup bloggers are the Lip Butters from Revlon.  I took a look and made my own assessment of them.  With such a wide range of colors to choose from, it was indeed a bit daunting to choose which ones I like most.  But since I just wanted to try it, I only bought one tube, in the shade of Candy Apple.

FACTS:
Place bought:  at the Revlon counter at SM Department Store, Cubao.
Price:  525.00 PHP
Packaging:  Comes in a typical twist-up lipstick tube, with a plastic cap. The plastic cap shows the color of the product itself.
Shade:  Candy Apple is a bright red orange color. However, for me, it’s more of a bright yellow red, reminding me of how red candies look like.

Review: Bare Escentuals' Buxom Lips

Buxom…Buxom…Buxom!

I’m liking how that word sounds.  It feels like it’s something big and heavy.  According to the dictionary though, it means “to describe a full-bossomed woman”.  How kinky and how interesting, right?  And then, Bare Escentuals, a US brand, decided to name their lip gloss line Buxom.  Actually, it was made to describe how these pretty glosses are supposed to have and give a lip plumping effect.  Now, whether or not they delivered, you will soon find out.

FACTS:
Place bought:  They’re part of my makeup gifts, so I really don’t know. Naturally, they all came from the US.
Price:  Clueless on this. Will get back to you as soon as I got some info.
Packaging:  For a lip gloss, these babies come in rather huge tubes, bigger than regular lip gloss tubes. It comes in a tube, with a wand for an applicator.
Shade:  I got 4 of them, which I will describe in a bit.

From the Top: Dolly, Bianca, Amber and Ranani

Dolly is pale, neutral pink.  Bianca is on the peach and nude side.  Amber applies as a mauvey pink.  And lastly, Ranani has the brightest tint of all, which is fushcia pink.  All of them come with little gold glitters.

MY CONCURRENCES:
Oh my, these lippies sure have some kinda punch.  The plumping effect comes in a minty and stingy feeling on the lips, even with just a little swipe.  And it lasts for as long as you have the product on your lips. That means, unless you lick your lips a lot, you get at most 4-5 hours of wear plus the stinging effect.  I imagine wearing this in the middle of an all-nighter, and it will definitely work to wake you up.  As far as being lip glosses go, they are shiny, tasty, and scenty – all in a good way, of course.  Perfect for pulling off that minimal lip makeup look.

MY DISSENT:
However, since they are glosses, they still have that sticky feel – which I hate in a gloss.  Also, the colors are sheer and are only perfect for topping lipsticks – at least for me.  But when I do decide to wear them alone, it was only for the refreshing stingy feel.  As for plumping my lips to do an “Angelina Jolie” – I don’t think it works.  I have thin lips, so it didn’t really do much.

OVERALL VERDICT:
If you’re looking for a lippie that will stir up all of your senses, then this Buxom lip glosses will do the trick.  Giving enough shine, color and texture on the lips, that punch of stingy and minty feel surely pumps up the wearing factor of these.  Without that plumping effect, they will merely pass off as regular lip glosses.  But I swear by the sting it makes on the lips, it really wakes up my senses!  I’m wearing Dolly as I write, and it sure creates that refreshing, cool and stingy feel.  I think they would be nice to wear while on the hot humid beach this summer, they surely give off that cool and minty effect.

Now going back to that name, "Buxom" seems to promise a lot of plumping effect. But sadly, it didn't apply on me. Maybe on other lips, it will.

That's it for today. Enjoy the rest of the hours of Sunday, and before you know it, Monday will kick in again.

Catfight

It's Friday, and that means, it's time to play around with makeup! Do you notice how I always do my makeup look posts on Fridays? Well, that's because it's that day of the week when I get more freedom to get away with "inappropriate" office makeup looks. Teehee.

So for today, I'm playing around with cat eyes. You know, that famous winged-liner look.  And because I have new contact lenses, it seems to emphasize the liners more. Dontchathink?

Face:
The Faceshop Aqua Tinted BB Cream in Natural Beige
Fashion 21 Perfect Stick Concealer
Fashion 21 Two Way Cake Powder Foundation
Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder
NARS Sin on my cheeks (new blush!)

Eyes:
Fanny Serrano Long Wear Gel Liner in Black
Ever Bilena brown eyeliner for my brows
no mascara

Lips:
Essences Lipstick in Sparkling Angel (03)

So that's it. Oh, and lemme say that it took me 10 minutes to do all these. Not bad, eh?

Enjoy the weekend!

Review: Fashion 21's Perfect Stick with Tea Tree Oil

"NO to dark circles under the eyes!

NO to unsightly blemishes under the chin!

NO to dark, uneven skin tone on the sides of my nose!"

These are my mantra for searching for the best concealer in town.  I used to have my HG concealer, which came in a cream texture from Elianto.  But ever since Elianto left our Philippine shores ( ='( ), I was constrained to look for another one that serves me well. Lately, I've been switching between ELF's liquid concealer and Ellana's Mineral Powder Concealer in Awake.

The powder concealer works best, but it just needed extra effort in blending to apply.  It's not something that I regularly opt to use during my morning rituals where I usually rush my makeup routine.    As for the liquid concealer from ELF, it delivered well enough until I am now at its last drops. Still, I wish it could be better.

But then, as I was browsing Girltalk, I happen to click the thread for local brands for makeup, and that's how I found my new concealer love.

FACTS:

Place bought:  Fashion 21 counter, Department Store, Market! Market! Mall
Price:  185.00 PHP
Packaging:  Comes in a light green twist-up tube, similar to a lipstick tube, only slightly bigger.
Shade:  The shade that I chose was Milk Tea. I think there are two or three shades available, and this one appeared to have more yellow undertones.

Review: MAC Blot in Medium/Dark

Heya, girls!

Finally, a real full-blown review on my MAC Blot.  So, here's the scoop, read on...

FACTS:

Place Bought:  MAC Store in Rustan's Makati
Price: 1,350.00 PHP
Packaging:  Comes in a box (not in the photos, though.), it's a round black compact, with a puff.
Shade:  My shade is Medium/Dark.  Apparently, it's the darkest shade for this line. But it applies almost invisible, so it suits me.

MY CONCURRENCES:
In my previous blog post about this product, I raved about this product.  It's my current touch-up powder, which I use everyday.  It eliminates the oil and shine from my face, most especially if used as a finishing powder.  It lasts for about 5 hours on me, under an air-conditioned environment.  I like the lasting power, and how it applies transluscent on my skin.  It also visibly reduces the appearance of my larger pores on my nose. I use this with my Charm kabuki brush, not with the puff, and it does real wonders on my skin.

MY DISSENT:
Need I stress it out more? I hate the steep price for an everyday powder. I cannot afford to buy it, given that I can almost use it up for only 2 months.  I only had this last December, and the pan is already peeking.  So right now, I'm switching it up with my other powders, so I won't use it up quickly.  Also, I'm not really sure, but I wish they sold refills for this. Such a waste to throw out the nice compact for a new one, right?

FINAL VERDICT:
If not for the price, I'll say this is my HG touch-up powder.  If only I earn that much, then I can afford to buy this compact regularly.  But because, I'm also practical, I'd rather save my money for more important things.  But I have to say that all the hype about how this powder blots up oil effectively are all true.  It really works, especially on skin that gets oily and shiny due to our hot and humid weather.

Not wanting to finish it all up at once, I'm currently looking for a dupe for this. Something cheaper, and much better if it's a local brand, too.  As of the moment, I think I found a dupe. But I'm still on the verge of testing it out.  Don't worry, I will tell you about it soon.

How about you?  What are your thoughts on MAC Blot?

Tea Break

Hello Friday!

Unfortunately for me, it's not time to rejoice just yet. Still got more reading & typing to do. But I'm taking timeout to blog for a bit.

But nothing much about beauty talk though, just sharing my new discovery of green tea & munchies. Yup, healthy way to go! Oh, and to keep things pretty, here's my go-to blush stick for the week. Just one swipe makes me brighten up.

Okay, that's it for now. Gotta go back to the other side of my desk.

Enjoy your Friday!

Happy Love Day!

Here's a rose for you, girls. Hope you'll get to have a fun day - no matter what your social life status is. Oh, and don't forget to swipe that lipstick - you never know who you're gonna meet.

Lips of the Day: Nyx Doll

I have a new series/column for the blog, and it'll be called Lips of the Day. I need not state the obvious, and I'm hoping that my readers are smart enough to get the point. I guess that's how much I adore any kind of lip product: lip balm, lipstick, lip gloss, you name it.

So, for today, my current fave is such a Doll - and it's from NYX. I love how the color is so rich and the creamy texture is so pigmented. But the color is so tame, it becomes perfect for office makeup looks. It's a warm deep berry shade with some brown & purple undertones. On me, it looks reddish brown but nothin too dark or vampy. I'm currently wearing it with brown eyeliner& black mascara. No pink or reddish blush for this, as it kinda imparts that clownish look.

Great lasting power for about 3-4 hours, depending on how much you lick your lips or touch that cup of coffee. It also leaves a stain behind, so I kinda dig that.

Try it, the price & texture is worth it.

Violet for the Weekend

The work week is almost over.

I can feel the weekend creeping in, in the form of my bed calling me to sleep.  Seriously, I was really sleepy during the whole week.  Was it the hormones, or the full moon, or I'm just really tired lately? I assume it's the latter, because we're still not done with our recent moveout. My room is still an entire mess, but I'm almost there!

Anyhoo, it's Friday and my boss isn't around. Wee! It's also that time of the week to have fun with my eye makeup - violet eyes!  (Please pardon the unclear photos, I took them using my Ipod Touch's camera.)

Eyes:
Nichido Automatic Eyebrow Pencil in dark brown for my brows
Coastal Scents 88 Shimmer Palette using the column for purple & violet shades
Wet & Wild Gel Liner in Purple
Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus

Face:
Maybelline 8-in-1 BB Cream
Fashion 21 Concealer Stick with Tea Tree Oil in Milk Tea (new fave!)
Fashion 21 Two-Way Cake Powder Foundation (new fave!)
Ellana Minerals Concealer in Awake
Fashion 21 Blush Stick in Shade 3

Lips:
Human Heart Nature Tinted Lip balm
MAC Pro Long Wear Lipcreme in Overtime

I took these shots by the window of my new room, all the way to the 10th floor. And yep, the sun is shining bright even at only 9am. Should we say, "Hello, Summer"?

Have a good weekend, my ladies!

Current fave

Hi there! I'm actually doing this quickpost, to try out the Blogger App on my new Ipod Touch (sweet!). And for today, I'd like to show my current HG touch up powder.

Yep, it's the most raved about MAC Blot, which I have in the medium/dark shade. It applies almost invisible onto the skin using my kabuki brush from Charm. Albeit too expensive for an everyday powder, it certainly lives up to all the hype.

I'm currently looking for a dupe for this, you know, something more affordable. It just hurts to shell out 1350PHP for a powder which I use everyday. I only had this for almost two months, but I already hit the pan.

Watch out for my more extensive review for this, which I'll have to do soon before I finish it up.

Review: Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush Lip Glosses

I got these lip glosses as part of the makeup gifts stash that I got from my relatives in the US.  I have to say that I'm not really a fan of lip glosses, which is why you hardly see any reviews of such here.  I just really find them too sticky for my taste, and you know how your hair could get stuck on it? I kinda hate that.  But despite all that, I do love the sweet scent and flavors that some of them have.

These Victoria's Secret  Beauty Rush Lip Glosses are exactly that.  Yummy, colorful, and yep, still sticky...at least for me.

FACTS:

Place Bought:  Got them as gifts, but obviously, they're from the Victoria's Secret stores.
Price: $7.00, but usually available in sets of 2 or 4, so you get more discounts.
Packaging:  Clear plastic tubes, with silver screw.  The tubes show the actual shade.
Shade:  I got five of them!
Grapesicle, Honey Do, Strawberry Fizz, I want Candy, Piece of Cake

Grapesicle is purplish with no glitter, and smells like grapes.  Honey Do is peachy with gold glitter flecks.  Strawberry Fizz smells and tastes like strawberries and the shade is pink with silver glitter, with purple tones.  I Want Candy is plain warm pink that literally smells and tastes just like candy.  Piece of Cake smells so yummy as a cake and comes off as a pale pink color with no glitters.

Sorry girls, I only swatched the Grapesicle here.  But all of them when swatched, gives off sheer color.

My Concurrences:
They taste like candy! Sweet candy taste and equally sweet yummy scent, these are such yummy lippies.  I like the shades also, including those with glitter. The sheen or shine that they leave on lips stay on until your next drink or meal.  In the same way, the smell or taste stays on, too.  They work great as "lipstick toppers" or even worn alone to give shiny textured lips.  These lippies are also moisturizing, so no need for a balm.

My Dissent:
Need I repeat it again?  They are just so sticky!  If they leave enough shine without being sticky, then I'll be able to work with them longer.  Also, even if the shades are different, they aren't that pigmented or opaque.  The shimmery ones do leave some glitter - the Strawberry Fizz and Honey Do - but I still prefer pigmented lips.

Overall Verdict:
Maybe someday, there will come a time when I will prefer lip glosses more than lipsticks.  Because no matter how pretty they look, nor how good they smell or taste, the only use I have for them is having to wear them on top of my lipsticks.  I tried wearing one alone, and although I enjoyed the moisturizing effect and the shiny lips, I still found myself grabbing more lip color.  Nevertheless, since I don't foresee myself using all of them, I will just share them to my sister or to my friends.  But that Grapesicle shade will definitely stay with me, because so far, it's my favorite from the bunch.

So, that's my Friday post for today.  How's it going with ya? Hope everyone's chillin' good.

Glossy Bluish Gray Eyes

A makeup look post that is very very long overdue.  I wore this during my birthday dinner/drinking session with my girlfriends, so this was around late December last year.  I got to use my new Coastal Scents 88 Shimmer Palette and chose the colors blue, beige, white and a soft turquoise all blended together.  I'm a bit new to wearing colors on my lids, so bear with me, I'm still experimenting.  I also tried to copy the glossy lids trend that were popular on runway shows last year.  Lastly, I just simply matched the shimmer with the silver sparkles on my blouse that night.

Face:
Maybelline 8-in-1 BB Cream
ELF Two-Way Cake Powder Foundation
Ellana Minerals Powder Foundation in Hazelnut Latte
Ellana Minerals Powder Concealer in Awake
The Body Shop Shimmer Waves for highlight
NARS Angelika on the cheeks

Eyes:
Coastal Scents 88 Shimmer Palette
(blended the colors light blue, turquoise, gray, white and beige)
Fanny Serrano Long Wear Gel Liner
LA Colors Eye Pencil in White
Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus
Eyebrowz Powder on brows

Lips:
MAC Pro Long Wear Lipcreme in Love Forever

Have a good day!
