Review: A Nameless Eyebrow Powder

Hi, everyone!

How's everyone enjoying their weekday off?  Since I'm just chillin' out at home, I decided to update this blog.  So for today, I have a review for you and it's all about this eyebrow powder I discovered in the newly-opened Suesh store in SM Megamall.

Like I said in my blog post title, it's a nameless and brandless eyebrow powder. The only information I have about it are the ingredients at the back and that it's made from Canada.  It came in a box, too.  Actually, these are sold in many variable shades like gray, light brown, ash brown, and this chocolate brown shade which I got.  But before I move on, let's see the basics....

Place Bought:  Suesh Store, SM Megamall (You gotta visit this place! Aside from their wide array of makeup brushes, they also have many professional makeup tools and makeup products.)
Price:  Php495.00 (yeah, pretty expensive for a brandless product, but since it's 3g, it should be worth it.)
Packaging:  It came in a box, and the product is housed in a basic circular pot, like most eyeshadow powders. But it's big, it has 3g of powder in it.
Shade:  I got the shade Walnut - which is a basic chocolate or dark brown shade.

Review: Alba Botanica Deep Sea Facial Mask

Aloha on a Monday! How are you all feeling today? It's the last day of September!

I'm kinda nursing a headache today, and I think I'm goin down with a flu (hopefully not!).  So I just stayed at home today.  I feel like such an adult for taking a leave from work today, because I actually feel guilty about it since I've got a deadline for today.  But this freakin' headache is just killin' me! So anyways, just to kill the boredom and the guilt, might as well do some blogging.

For today, I'm gonna be raving about this new facial mask that I discovered from Healthy Options recently.

Place bought:  Healthy Options store at Bonifacio Global City
Price: I honestly forgot, but it's around Php200-300, I'm sure!
Packaging:  It's in a light green, big, fat, plastic, and squeezable tube.

I'm a sucker for anything that's easy and quick to use, so when I saw the directions on how to use this facial mask, I grabbed it right away.  And it's not so bad that it doesn't cost too much as well. Plus, it's paraben-free, hypo-allergenic, and made with 100% vegetarian ingredients.  (Translation: it means it's made of the good stuff.)

sorry for the messy tube, just shows how I regularly use it. hehe.

Review: NYX Slim Eye Pencils in Electric Blue and Bronze Glitter

It's been a rainy Sunday here in Metro Manila.  And in my part of the metro, dark skies were looming all day.  Such a gloomy day, alright.  Nevertheless, that didn't stop me from goin' out to my nearby coffee shop to do some work.  Yeah, I know, how boring right?

But because I just finished draining my brain juices in drafting two contracts, it's time for something fun!  Let's get on it!

Place Bought: Pure Beauty store in Serendra, Bonifacio Global City
Price:  I got these on sale.  I got two eye pencils for the price of one, which was Php245.00.
Packaging:  Just a simple eye pencil, nothing fancy.
Shades: Electric Blue - This is a bright blue opaque shade.
Bronze Glitter - This is light bronze with shimmers.

As you know, if you've been reading my posts lately, I'm in a liner phase.  I can't bear not going out of the house without doing my eyes.  Forget about eyeshadows and contouring 'cause I'm all about heavy eyeliners, girl!

Liner Girl

Heya! How's the week been to you so far? Can you believe it? It's already September! I'm not quite done with my August yet, still got loads of tasks to finish! I can't keep up at all.

This week begins the fall makeup trends in the other side of the world. It's actually my favorite season when it comes to makeup products launching because each brand seems to come out with their best products at this time of the year. Lots of drama reds and burgundy shades for the lips, deep blues and purples for the eyes, and my fave trend of all time - the heavy eyeliner look.

Yeah, I already posted a makeup look recently with me wearing this trend. But I'm kinda addicted to it lately. And while playing with my makeup, I was able to discover the wonders of wearing my dark eyeshadow shades as liners in lieu of the usual liners and gels. I also tried layering my highlighters under my eyes to show the contrast more.

Products used: Shu Uemura UV underbase mousse, MAC power foundation, Benefit Dandelion, Eyebrowz powder, Ever Bilena single eyeshadow in violet as liner over my Essence gel liner, plain Maybelline lipbalm.

Hope you love my look.

Have a great week ahead!

No More Dark Under Eyes

Every morning at work, I always tell myself that I will go home early.  Today is not an exception.  I have - and want - to go home early today, so I can sleep early later tonight! Unfortunately, that rarely ever happens lately.  I always come home late from work.  My skin has been suffering a lot from all my overtime work hours.  And my eyes are the living proofs!

Luckily, there are wonderful products out there somewhere that make me less worried about having to sport dark under eyes everyday.  Well, at least something that would prolong that from happening.

Have you heard of the wonders of the sunflower oil?  If you've been hanging out in major beauty blogs, I'm sure you've heard of them.  I also made a post about it at one point here.  But for today, let me show you one of it's many amazing effects on skin. I use this particular bottle from my favorite Human Nature brand.

The Liebster Award

Wow, I'm really honored and happy to open my blog just now and discover that My Purple Points had been nominated for an award.  Thanks so much, Yen of The Tinted Quill!

What is The Liebster Award?
It's an award given to up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers, so other bloggers can recognize them in the blogging community. I think it's a great way also to get to know and visit other blogs and learn more about beauty blogging!  Honestly, it's a fun way to discover not just new product reviews, but also new friends in the blogosphere.

Here are the simple rules to follow:
1. Link back to the person who nominated you.
2. Answer the 10 questions asked by that blogger (the one nominated you).
3. Choose 10 bloggers who have under 200 followers and nominate them.
4. Come up with 10 questions to ask the chosen bloggers.
5. Go to your nominees' blogs and notify them.

Smoky Eyes Friday

It's been a long time ago since I posted a makeup look. And as part of my vow to update this blog as often as I could, I'll be doing some daily quickie posts using either my phone or my Ipod touch, whichever is convenient.

So for today, it's all about the eyes. I wanted strong brows and dark eyes, yet I have to make it wearable at work, too.

Here's what I came up with for today:

Everything pale, from lips to cheeks, except for my eyes.

Products used:
MAC Snob, The Faceshop blush in baby pink, In2it 2 way powder foundation, Etude House gel liner, eyebrow powder & my NYX Runway eyeshadows.

A happy Friday to all!

Review: Essence Lipsticks in All About Cupcake and I'm a Lobstar

Hey hey hey!!!

I missed blogging! I can't tell you how much I missed it, it's like I haven't seen a friend for a long time.  It's quite refreshing actually, a huge break from what I usually write or do on a daily basis.  You know, work! So from now on, I really vow to post at least  every weekend.  It's not that I haven't really been into makeup and beauty lately.  I mean, I have a ton of new products waiting to have their share in the limelight.  I just really don't have the usual free time anymore. But really, I promise to update my blog more frequently.

So starting today, here's a lipstick review from a drugstore brand that just came into our shores - Essence!  I remember posting about it at the time I went to Malaysia.  I raved about how great their products were and I wished someone would bring the brand here.  I guess somebody heard my wishful thinking, so now, Essence is here! You can find their products at any SM department store's Beauty section.  And because the products are so affordable, you will go crazy trying to choose which ones to buy at one go!

I already posted about one of their mascaras and lipsticks.  And since I really love their lipsticks so much, I got two more shades!

Place bought: SM Megamall,  Beauty Section
Price:  Php 149.00 for a pretty tube.
Packaging:  the lipsticks are encased in a plastic tube, in the same shade of the lipstick.  It has a tiny transparent part, where you can see the actual product.
Shades:  I got two! All about Cupcake is a pretty pale pink in a warm tone.  Meanwhile, I'm a Lobstar is a bright orange shade with lots of silver glitter.

If you  like sheer lipsticks in a light formula, these are your bets!  From the swatches here, you'll see that these aren't your usual pigmented lipsticks.  They apply light, sheer and glossy.  It's like a lipgloss that came in a tube.  So don't be deceived by the bright colors, especially of I'm a Lobstar, because the orange doesn't show except if you really pile it on.

All About Cupcake
This shade, All About Cupcake, has been raved in the beauty blogging world.  I didn't know that when I purchased this, but when I googled about it, that's when I found out that it has become a favorite.  Maybe it's because of the creamy texture, and how the shade flatters almost any skin tone. Personally, I love how the pale pink shade looks on me.

Ain't it pretty?  You'll notice how it looks different on the tube and when worn on the lips.  I guess that's why it's a hit, because the shade varies depending on the shade of your natural lips.

I'm a Lobstar
As for I'm a Lobstar, I got hooked on it immediately when I opened the tube.  It's a unique shade for a lipstick, yet it's not as bright as when you apply it.  You know how I love glitters on my lips, so I guess this one's a no-brainer.

Again, the shade is different on the tube and when worn on the lips. It's amazing how it changes!

Wear time is about two hours, or until your next drink or meal.  They also smell like candies, which is a plus for me, but if you don't like fragrant cosmetics, then the scent might turn you off.

What I really like about these is that they're super moisturizing.  They don't dry the lips at all.  On days when I feel that my lips are extra dry, but I also wanted some shine and color on my lips, these are the ones I grab. I don't mind applying every so often, because I really like how they smell.

Maybe the packaging could be improved a bit, because the plastic tubes can break easily if you're clumsy.  But other than that, aside from being so affordable, I really like the wear of these.

Here are swatches on my hand to show how sheer they are:

left: I'm a Lobstar;  right: All About Cupcake

Have you tried any Essence product yet?

Review: MAC Pearlmatte Face Powder in Flatter Me

I don't really know if I'm a real Betty Cooper at heart, because honestly, when it came to the opposite sex and all things glam, I've always been a Veronica Lodge.  But I really wonder why in the MAC Archie Collection that recently launched, the two items I got were from the Betty collection.

Maybe it's because I'm now more into neutral makeup and I now know what shades work best for my skintone.  And with this recent purchase I got from MAC, I know I made the right choice.

MAC Pearlmatte Face Powders aren't new to me.  In fact, I have the same product from the Marilyn Monroe collection, except this time, it's in a warmer tone.  So, here to present to you, the MAC Flatter Me Pearlmatte Face Powder -

Place Bought:  MAC store, Power Plant Mall
Price: Php1,750.00
Packaging:  In true MAC fashion, this one comes in a pretty white compact with mirror with Archie and his girls on the cover.
Shade:  Flatter Me is a warm beige with heart-shaped dots of coral blush.

Review: Etude House Drawing Show Creamy Liner

gel liner that came with a small gel liner brush

Back to business.

It’s been almost a whole month of not updating my blog. And to all my readers, so sorry for that. Well, as every blogger would always say, life kinda got in the way.  As for me, my life involves a lot of work time, so needless to say I just got really busy with work.  But I didn’t totally forget about blogging at all, because I actually got a bunch of new makeup and photos for product reviews.  In fact, I’m about to start with this new find I got – the Etude House Drawing Show Creamy Liner.

Let’s see…

Place bought: Etude House store at Eastwood City Walk, Libis
Price:  can’t remember exactly, but I know that this is around Php500.00.
Packaging:  in a glass jar, about the size of a regular gel liner that came with a tiny gel liner brush.
Shade: matte black.

Ok, I have to admit that I was hesitant to get this.  But out of pure necessity for a new black gel liner, I finally gave in.  In fact, I was about to get a MAC Fluidline in black when I happened to browse the Etude House store.  For an affordable price of less than a thousand bucks, and with the very informative sales talk of the SA who was patient enough to answer all my questions about it, I went home with it with a few doubts on my mind. Nevertheless, I tried and used it for a few times before I realized that it was a good purchase after all.

First off, it was really convenient for it to come with it’s own applicator brush.  It’s very handy, quite cute because of its tiny size, and most of all, it’s actually impressive because it performs so well.  I tried using it with my MAC Fluidline and it works just as great.  So now, I have a travel-friendly gel liner brush that comes with a cap.

As for the actual gel liner, you can notice from the swatches that it applies dry and matte.  Because of that, there’s no downtime for letting it dry after application.  And the shade stays really black and matte for a long time.

Best of all, it actually stays on for long.  Indeed, this gel liner won’t budge or smudge for a good 8 hours.  And for an eyeliner, that is really what matters most, right?

I guess because it’s long-wearing, the only con I can think of about it is that it’s difficult to remove.  You really need a good eye makeup remover for this.  But other than that, I can say that this is one of the best gel liners I tried so far.  Oh wait, I got another thing that got me worrying about it, I hope it won’t dry up in its jar because it’s so dry.

So yeah, my new staple gel liner for now is from Etude House.  Have your tried this one? Tell me your thoughts!

Have a great week ahead!

New Shopping Hub: Zalora.com.ph

You know how we can all get so busy in a week that we don’t really have the luxury of time to stroll at the mall and go window shopping?
Well, I get that all the time. In fact, I think I haven’t been in a mall just to shop or window shop for a good three (3) weeks.  And if ever I do happen to be in a mall, it’s either for an errand, to pay the bills, or to buy just the essentials.  Being the mall rat that I am since I was still in school, I’m really itching and dying to go. And I really wish I’ve got all the FREE time in the world just to be able to do that.  Heck, I don't even have the time to do my usual blogging. How tragic, right?
My weekends have always been swamped, too, so no exceptions there.  Given that it’s the summer season, I always have some out-of-town trips going on.  So yeah, I’m pretty much stuck.
However, who says I have to sulk just like that?  I really thank the heavens for the inventors of the internet and ONLINE SHOPPING! Whoever they are, they are pure geniuses!
I know many shopping sites have sprouted all over the net, but here’s something new to spice things up: ZALORA.COM.PH.

Since I’m all about honesty, I have to say that I was pretty irked when I discovered that I had to pre-register before ordering something.  However, it just means that once you register, you won’t have to type everything every time you order something from them.
But no worries, because you can already browse the site for free without having to register first.  That means, you get to view all the available items they have.  Lots of brands are available, some aren’t even available in our physical stores.  There are also various categories to choose from, ranging from clothes, to shoes, to accessories, and all other quirky stuff, including beauty items like makeup!  Personally, I was really searching for a gift idea for my Dad’s birthday so I was always pretty much in the Men’s section for two days now.  Seriously, there are a lot to see so it could get really overwhelming.  Good thing they have this “wishlist” app, which makes browsing and choosing easier.  Payment options are also varied in that they even offer COD terms.  And if you’ll purchase items worth more than Php1000, you’ll also get free shipping!
You know what else? Since I just registered yesterday, I found out that signing up for their newsletter will entitle you to a discount for any item.  Any discount for me is always good! In fact, right now until April 27th, they have an ongoing sale – 20% off on all items if you download their new Iphone app.
So what are you still staring for? Go and click the link to see for yourself what Zalora has to offer.

Nailbits: Waves or Zebra Print?

What I originally attempted to be blue zebra print nails turned out to be like this. Haha!

So now I call it my "blue waves" nail art.

But notice the difference with my left hand, where I seem to have finally achieved the zebra print.  Or so I think.

So yeah, I'm currently sporting two different nail arts on my hands.  But I think it's kinda cool though.
Well, so much for that.

What are you wearing on your nails?

Review: Majolica Majorca Cream de Cheek in RD411

It's officially summer!

Despite the somewhat weird weather we're having with the occasional rainshowers (which are not supposed to happen in summer, by the way!), I definitely feel the heat, baby! If you ask me, I'd rather be stuck at my office the whole day, than go get my coffee in the other building only to be bombarded with the painful sun rays!

Don't get me wrong, I love the sun being bright and shiny all the time rather than the storms.  But not when I'm all dressed up in my corporate attire and I feel this drop of sweat trickling all the way down the center of my bra. Isn't that irritating?

So yeah, it's time for that annual adjustment when it comes to our makeup routines.  When it's hot and humid outside, a full-blown makeup look everyday just won't do.  For this kind of season, you need something light, yet colorful at the same time.

Thank God for the inventors of cheek tints! Or stains, or cheek creams, or whatever you call them really.  When it's hot outside, I'd rather forego the full-on powder blush and stick with cheek stains instead, or else, I'll end up with blotchy, cakey cheeks!

To get started with summer, I found this cheek stain from Majolica Majorca.

Place bought:  SM Megamall department store, Beauty Section

Price:  Php 495.00

Packaging:  It's in a cute tiny bottle. The applicator is like that of a nail polish.  In fact, I think it really looks like a nail polish!

Shade: RD411, which is Kiichigo Cream, according to the Majolica Majorca website.  But for me, it's just plain creamy red.  It may look like a deep coral shade, too.

First off, I adore the packaging! Very pretty, princess-like, and travel-friendly! I can carry it in the tiniest pockets of my handbag.  The applicator is also neat and hygienic.  It's easy to apply this way, too.

Review: NYX Xtreme Lip Cream in Candyland

I know, I'm too late to be reviewing this product.  It's actually been out since last year.  But I had to be honest, because at first, I didn't really like it.  I have two shades actually, which are in themselves really pretty. However, the rest of the texture and performance is another story.  For this post, I'll be reviewing Candyland.

Place bought:  Eastwood tiangge, from Pretty Goddess' stall (where I get all my NYX fix)

Price:  Php300++.  (sorry, been a long time so I kinda forgot, but definitely not over Php400.)

Packaging:  It's packed like your usual lip gloss with a doe foot applicator.

Shade:  Candyland - a cool-toned light pink

The shade itself is really pretty.  It's what my usual lip color would probably look like.  Basing it on other NYX shades, it's a little close to Tea Rose, except a tad lighter.  I think even if it's blue-based, it flatters my skin tone well, granted that I match it with other complimentary shades. So shade-wise, I have no problem with it.

My 2013 Oscar's Bets

It's that time of the year - it's "awards season", baby!
I'm always excited to see how the stars fare every year, being so dressed up to the nines.  I passed posting photos of my favorites for the previous Golden Globes and SAG, but I wouldn't miss posting something about the Annual Academy Awards.
But for this year, let's put all the focus on the stars' hair and makeup looks.  Admittedly, only quite a few stood out.

I really dig those unconventional "cat eyes" sported by Amanda Seyfried.  Using plum and dark gray colors, it adds softness to the whole look making it complement the rest of her get up.

As for Adele, she will always be the winner for the classic winged eyeliner look. Done really black, with lots of lashes, it never fails for the red carpet look.  However, I wish she wore a different hairstyle instead.

Talk about Barbie look, or something more apt probably is "Elle Woods" from Legally Blonde, made famous by Reese Witherspoon herself. Shiny and wavy blonde hair, complemented with blue eyeshadow and bright pink lipstick.  It actually compensated for her gown's lack of spark.

Simple. Fierce. Sexy. 'Nuff said.  You did really well, Charlize! You never fail on the fierce part.

Oh, one of the best looks of the night, Jessica Chastain.  Probably going for Jessica Rabbit instead, but she nailed it! Those red lips complement her hair color very well.  The perfect look to go with her ravishing gown.  Probably my favorite for the whole show.

And, finally, Anne Hathaway is simply gorgeous and sweet looking with those fringe.  She rocks short hair really well, makes me want to think about my own hair.  I also love the shade of her lipstick.
Obviously, the red carpet was missing some of the usual crowd favorites like Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow.  But at least, it created some room for other celebrities to standout for a change.
To cap off, here's my favorite look for the night  - Jessica Chastain in all her sexy glory:
Have a great week ahead!

Review: Essence's Get BIG Lashes Mascara

Whatup, yo!

Have you seen the Oscar's yet?  Did any of your bets win?  I have no serious bets for this year actually, except that I think Hugh Jackman deserves that nomination, if not the award itself.  I haven't watched Lincoln, so I can't really judge Daniel Day-Lewis's performance, although I also agree that he's a very great actor.  And oh, Anne Hathaway winning the Best Supporting Actress is not bad either.   Honestly, I'm a big Awards-show fan, only because the stars always go all out with their gowns and makeup.  Will be posting about my favorite looks soon, but for now, I have a product review for you.

Remember how I raved about this Essence brand when I went to KL? Well, good news, ladies and gents! Essence is now in the Philippines! And what a great way to spot them at SM Department Store that one time that I was shopping for a new mascara.  So yeah, I got a couple of lippies from them and this new mascara - my new obsession as of late! haha!

With the name itself, I sure am expecting some BIG performance.  Ready?

Place Bought:  SM Department Store, Mall of Asia

Price:  Php 249.00

Packaging - it's in a BIG tube, with a BIG mascara brush to go with it.

Shade:  Black

I am amazed. Seriously. As in BIG time.

Floating Eyeliner Makeup Look

Ok, this makeup look is not about me.  I was browing through the different beauty shots from the fashion shows of deisgners for spring 2013.  This one from the Michael Kors Spring 2013 fashion show took my attention right away.
A line of either turquoise blue or  neon green, both so bright and thick, and lined just above the crease.  It was made to create an illusion of sorts to the whole face.  The whole face is made bare, with just a pile of foundation and powder, some highlighters, concealers and neatly-done eyebrows. Really, it's that simple to create.  And yet, the results are amazing.

Makeup artist Dick Page used Shisheido products and for the eyeliner, Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trios in BL 310 (Punky Blues) and GR 305 (Jungle).  It's definitely not your traditional eyeliner makeup look.  This is really something unique and the first I've seen.

When the model closes her eyes, the floating eyeliner pops out right there, making it look weird and out of place.

But I do have to admit - the effect is instant modern, fashion-forward look.  I especially love the green one.

Pretty, yet weird.  Certainly, you can't wear this look at work, unless you're a model or a celebrity.  But I'd love to try it out one of these days.

Would you dare?
